Demelza Clay
Ski Coach
Demelza never planned a career in the ski industry, but after earning a Sports Science degree in 2000, she was swept up by the magic of endless winters. Raised in the Australian Alps in a family of freeskiers, she found a natural path in combining her love for skiing with a deep curiosity about biomechanics and human movement.
Her coaching is grounded in helping skiers move with purpose. Treating skiers like athletes, Demelza designs tasks that lead to meaningful insights—empowering learners to understand their own movement patterns and improve efficiently. Her style blends structure and intuition, precision and play.
With over two decades of diverse coaching and guiding experience, Demelza has worked across all levels of skiing and earned a reputation for technical depth, clarity, and empathy. She’s also a pioneer: believed to be the first Australian female heli-ski guide in Canada and the only woman on the Australian Demo Team in 2011.
Today, she shares her expertise as a consultant and content coach with Carv, through her work with the World Women’s Snowsports Association, and in collaboration with Tom Gellie on Big Picture Skiing. Now based in Canada, Demelza balances skiing, biking, and surfing—always chasing movement and mastery.
